Fractional Plasma Effective for Nonsurgical Blepharoplasty

Study data published in Dermatologic Therapy support the efficacy and safety of plasma technology for performing nonsurgical in patients seeking an aesthetic “eye lift” effect.

Conducted at the Hospital Sapienza Medical School of Rome, Italy, the study enrolled 10 women aged 40 to 65 years who sought the treatment of signs of aging in the periorbital region. Each patient underwent a nonsurgical blepharoplasty session with Plasmage^®, a fractional plasma generator developed in Italy. Researchers employed a “spot treatment” technique; physicians applied the lasers in sets of triangles, with vertices perpendicular to wrinkle folds. Immediately before and after treatment, they cleaned the eye area and disinfected it with benzalkonium chloride 0.125%. After discharge, they instructed patients to clean the treated area twice daily with benzalkonium chloride 0.125%.

Immediately after treatment, all patients had redness and edema in the treated area. After 24 hours, the patients’ eyelids remained very swollen from edema. Within 3 weeks, significant differences were observed in the eyelids: dermatochalasis was significantly reduced and periocular were smoothed. At 2 months post-treatment, results appeared to be stable. No complications or infections were observed; postoperative redness and edema typically resolved in 2 to 3 days.
